APRIL FILMS WORTH SEEING

Some real gems here. And really a mix of everything. Brainless comedies, psychological thrillers; even t & a car chase flicks. Plus, with all this shitty weather currently happening in NYC, I'm more than happy to park my seat in a dark room and wait for it to heat up outside.

April 1
Cat Run
This reminds me a lot of Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, which is a great thing. Scott Mechlowicz and Alphonso McAuley are detective who must protect Paz Vega's character (kind of like the Michelle Monaghan role from Kiss, except more Mexican with far worse English) from a hired assassin, after she uncovers some shady dealings.

See the rest after the break.

Super
More costumed crime fighters should use every day tools as their weapons of choice. How fucking scary would it be to see a dude in a mask walking around with a saw, or like a battery operated drill? Rainn Wilson has the right idea, man. Beat someone over the head a few times with a giant wrench, and no one will mess with you ever again.

Hanna
The buzz I'm hearing about Joe Wright's fairytale about a girl (Saoirse Ronan) who lives in the wilderness with her ex-C.I.A. father (Eric Bana) is phenomenal. Ronan looks to kick some serious ass, and I love how the trailer hints at how she's all sorts of freaky, but never reveals what it is. Add in an original score by the Chemical Brothers and we have a winner.

Meek's Cutoff
I'll see this one for the cast alone. Michelle Williams, Paul Dano, Bruce Greenwood, and Will Patton all star in a western about settlers trying to cross the Oregon desert, though run into a bunch of roadblocks like the weather, probably injuns. Plus, it's set in 1845, so you know the costumes are guaranteed to be super sexy.

Your Highness
This speaks volumes of how cool Natalie Portman is when her follow-up choice to her Academy Award winning performance in Black Swan, is a stoner comedy set in the Middle Ages. Written by and starring Danny McBride, Highness also features the 2011 Oscar host James Franco, in a film that no one is surprised to find he's attached to. I've included the red-band extended trailer here, which should be the requisite for all movies.

April 29
Fast Five
Yeah, I said it.
